I am all beat up....

Well living like a kid has left me in soar shape.  Dawn's cousin took his wife to Las Vegas as a surprise birthday gift, so Dawn is watching their three kids who are five, seven, and nine years old.  Well Dawn also has another kid to worry about, me.  I did the morning news yesterday, so I had last night off, and Dawn was taking the kids to the Miamisburg pool last night, so I joined in on the fun.  I didn't bring my bathing suit, but another one of Dawn's cousin, Dave 42 years old, who acts like he is 7, convinced me to run home and get my swimming trunks.  I got back just in time for the cannon ball contest and I hadn't went on the diving board yet, and I wasn't ready for the spring in it....  So, without getting into the water yet, I went on the board for the contest, put on by the pool, and completely failed.  I went and attempted to jump, slipped, scrapped lots of skin off my toes and foot and barely got any air.  Needless to say, I did not win.  Then Dave talked me into riding down the tube slide and at the bottom once getting dumped into the pool, I slammed my knee into the ground from the current and scraped that up as well.  My knee, today, is in nearly-extreme pain, I have almost fallen a time or two.  Anyways, we had a lot of fun, but I cut the pool short because my brother, Clark, came into town so we hung out and rode mopeds before it got too late.

Today I went over and hung out with Dawn and the kids; we played some Wii and Apples to Apples before I had to leave for work.  I am very excited for what we have planned for Monday; I work in the morning so I will be free in the evening that day.  The kids love Star Wars so I proposed the idea of cooking out, going to their tee ball game, coming back for smores and a campfire, then letting the kids have a slumber party in our living room watching Star Wars and having a good ole' time.  As a kid it is always fun to have slumber parties at other peoples houses.  I am super sad I can't join them for the putt putt planned for tomorrow night though.... Dawn basically is watching four kids, not just three.

Now to the forecast:  Sunday and early Monday will be just as sticky as today was.  Also a chance for showers and storms as a cold front passes through the area for the afternoon Sunday into Monday morning.  This cold front looks to bring much cooler and drier air behind.  Dew points will be around 50(meaning very comfortable, dry air), and temperatures topping out in the mid and upper 70's.  Luckily the cool temps will perfectly correlate with my days off this week, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I plan on riding a lot of moped those days and also hitting up the links as well.  Hopefully you will have something planned as well to take advantage of those days before things start slowly getting hot, sticky, & uncomfortable, as we all know they will....

Also, for those of you who caught the news yesterday, anything Nathan Baker said about my golf game is erroneous.  Kylie, Pete, Nathan and I were invited to a golf outing to raise money for Bridge Riding.  My team did well, we finished even, and as for my drives, well after a few swings, I was blasting them about 260-270 consistently, and won longest drive for the men.  My approach was alright, and my putting was passable, so now I know what I need to work on more....  Baker made it sound as if I was whiffing all of the golf balls.  Anyways, I gotta get back to work, have a good one!

Beautiful Weather On Tap

Well after it has felt like the surface of the sun this week, better conditions have already started moving in.  Last night was fairly comfortable as well.  Dawn and I played a game of cornhole and enjoyed the lower humidity.  I even talked her into riding the mopeds around the neighborhood last evening, although I had to give her a back rub when we got back to return the favor.  Today will be fantastic with sunshine, lower humidity, and cooler temperatures.  The weekend will have slightly warmer temperatures with humidity slowly rising. A slight chance for evening showers to the far Northern Miami Valley on Saturday, but another cold front will swing through Sunday night with showers and storms, BUT next week looks even better.  High temps look to be in the upper 70's next week with VERY low humidity.  Well time to get back to the newscast, just thought I would check in real quick, have a good one!

Potential for Severe Weather Today

Well we have been gaining steam the last week and this afternoon as long as we get a little lifting in the atmosphere we could see some pretty strong to severe storms later today.  The best chances for severe weather will be in the Northern Miami Valley.  We will need to keep an eye out for large hail, strong winds, and even a few tornadic storms are possible.  Less humid air will arrive for tomorrow for the end of the workweek.

I'm Baaaaaack, and Engaged....

Well I have been away visiting the Midwest and that's right, I am now engaged.  I will get into the details on that coming up, but just for those of you who were out of the loop, Dawn and I went to Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Cleveland and finally back to Dayton during the last 10 days.  It was a lot of fun, although the weather could have been better.

Anyways to the proposal.... We went back to Cleveland to drop off Buckeye with Dawn's parents, and I used that stop to get permission from her father to ask her.  He was a little surprised, but we have been together for just over two and a half years, so hopefully not too much of a surprise.  The last Sunday we took off for Chicago.  I had the ring with me at all times and there was no way I was getting any more than 5 feet from it.  We looked at the forecast and Monday looked like early showers then dry and Tuesday looked like storms, so I convinced her to do to the Navy Pier/Loop activities on Monday.(I wanted to get it over with and ask her as soon as possible) Anyways we went to Millennium Park and walked along Lake Michigan up to the Pier.  It was so foggy that you could barely see three stories high on the skyline so taking a picture of the horizon was out of the question.  I wanted to ask before lunch, but when it comes to Dawn as long as you keep her fed and cool, she is happy, and at this point she was starving....so we had lunch.  I was getting so antsy and nervous that after lunch she wanted to stop in an Irish shop, and I couldn't concentrate so I just told her I would wait outside.  Eventually she came outside and we walked to the end of the Pier.  I took her to the edge and told her we should take a picture together.  We took the picture with the coastline in the background and asked her if it was perfect. She was like, "I don't know, I don't care."  I told her it had to be perfect and we had to take it again, she said "Why does it have to be perfect?!  Ok, let's do it again."  We took a second photo and I asked if it was perfect and she started getting upset and I told her it had to be perfect because it would be our last one, this upset her more because she didn't understand why it was "our last one" or why it "had to be perfect".... Rather than explaining, I took Dawn to a bench a few feet away (no one else was within few hundred feet).  I sat her down and got on one knee.  She started hyperventilating asking what I was doing and she kept telling me to get up.  I said a few words and pulled the ring out of my backpack and..... she said "Yes."  She broke into tears and was COMPLETELY surprised; I have been telling her the last few months that we could get engaged in 3012, yes 3012.    I am super excited to spend the rest of my life with her, and that started off the vacation on the right foot and we had a blast the rest of our time off.  Now we got a lot of wedding planning.....(which has already begun)

Quick look at the forecast, it will feel like it will be in the mid 90's with isolated  showers and storms this week, and a little lower humidity for the end of the week.  Start making "cool" ideas how to avoid/deal with the heat now because you can use those ideas later this week.  Have a good one!

One final note

Well at least until I return to the Gem City.  We had a few severe storms this evening, but things are now starting to quiet down.  Saturday morning could be a rather wet one here in the Miami Valley and that is why the Flash Flood Watch is in effect until tomorrow afternoon.  Localized flooding could be a big concern.  Remaining muggy for the weekend with with scattered showers and storms and then becoming a little less humid to start off the workweek.  Next week looks to warm up again, so the next seven days looks to be great for the pool.(Just make sure NOT to be in the water when its storming and there is lightning.)

I am off to Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison.  First vacation since I started a year ago, looking forward to it. I leave you in the very capable hands of Mike Terwilleger and Jeff Booth, but until I return, have a good one!

It's about to get hot....

Well the last few days have been nothing short of amazing, but all good things must come to an end.  We will see warming temperatures the next few days, and also increasing humidity.  As you can assume, with temperatures getting into the mid and upper 80's and plenty of moisture, we will once again have the chance for showers and storms.  As with last weekend, it should NOT be a washout, basically scattered nature with a few here, a few there. After the weekend is over a cold front will push through bringing humidity and temperatures down a little bit, but we are heading into the middle of June, so as you can assume, it will not be dropping too far.  As of right now, the storms do not look to have a great chance for severe, basically your summer-time thunderstorms.

I will be on vacation with Dawn next week, so there is a good chance that the blog will be put on the back-burner until I return, but do not worry, I will let you know all the adventures and fun times I have on the trip.  It will be a Midwest trip stopping in Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison.  Got a lot of fun things planned and getting really excited.  Have a good one!

Long Night

Well it is now 8:55 AM and I am still in the weather center keeping an eye on things.  We almost have the last of the storms out of our area, and it has been quite an interesting evening.  The Tornado Watch was extended from 5 AM to 9 AM and now until 3 PM, however once these last cells move out of Clinton County, we should see the watch boxes dropped.

It has been quite an interesting night.  Jeff Booth came in and we hung out in the weather center and watched the radar and only had one Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued, which covered a few of the Northern counties.  It was for a strong cell that actually had tornado warnings issued for it almost the entire trip across Indiana.  It has lost some of its energy by the time it got here, but it still was quite strong with little to no rotation, so a Tornado Warning was not necessary.

The atmosphere had most of the ingredients to spin up a tornado, but not quite in our neck of the woods, which is a good thing.  There were however about 50 tornado reports across the Midwest within the last 24 hours.  Today the area offices of the National Weather Service will go out to inspect the damage and establish what was a tornado and what wasn't.  Reports had come in, that in Illinois, semi tractor trailers were thrown hundreds of yards through the air, and even worse, the preliminary reports are that three people have lost their lives here in Wood County, OH late last night due to a tornado.  The Wood County tornado tore though a high school and even damaged the county dispatch center.  Very sad news, and just in case one of the storms that rolled through HERE did the same and became tornadic,  I have been here all night keeping an eye on the conditions.  The all-clear for the entire Miami Valley will be coming up shortly, about 9:30-10:00AM, and then the afternoon looks BEAUTIFUL!!!  Have a good one!

Sweltering Saturday to Severe Storms

Well even though the temperatures have been a little cooler today, the mugginess of the air is WAY UP!  Storms rolling in from Indiana now and expect a few Severe Thunderstorms as we head through the evening hours and heavy rain, especially overnight.  The good news is that these storms are bringing cooler air for tomorrow and Monday.  I will be keeping an eye on the storms all day and night.  I will be updating everything from the television scroll to the the scroll on DaytonsNewsSource.com and also the stations twitter account twitter.com/abc22fox45  Stay safe and stay informed and have a good one!

Strawberries anyone??

Well, its that time, time for the annual Strawberry Festival in Troy.  I always remember watching the parade and remembering how it kind of marked the start of summer.  It was always within about a week of school letting out when I was a kid so it was a celebration, of sorts, to kick it off, in a sugary way.

I am headed up to the festival tomorrow morning and will be doing live reports on our morning show on FOX.  It should be quite a blast.  From what I have heard so far we should have some pretty cool guests lined up to get the festivities kicked off properly.  I am hoping it stays dry for tomorrow, but we do have a chance for a little bit of rain(I will get more into that, in a second), however as Kylie put it this morning on the news, "Rain or shine, strawberries will still taste the same."  Hope to see you there!

Now on to the weather.  We had quite a round of severe weather last night and actually have a chance to see more of it.  The coming days do not particularly look to have as great of a chance for severe weather, but there is still a slight chance.  The cold front put on its brakes and is now halted across North-Central Ohio.  Rounds of low pressure will ride like waves up the front from the Gulf bringing rounds of rain.  This will continue for the next four days, and we should finally dry out early next week, when the front finally moves South.  This will NOT be a washout, and actually we will be seeing more dry weather for the next four days than wet weather, but obviously the wet weather is what will be remembered.  Hot, moist, sticky air along with any sunshine will be the perfect ingredients for fueling storms as the waves of energy approach, so be on guard and take the umbrella in the coming days.  Have a good one!
